Net Kicks is a game I designed and developed while working at TimePlay and runs on the TimePlay platform. TimePlay games have multiple players using their phones to interact with a single shared screen (Big Screen). The games ran across Canada in Cineplex movie Theaters and at events, conferences and on cruise ships.
On this project I worked as the Game Designer for the initial design and maintaining the Game Design Document through the length of the project. I also worked as the mobile and game developer on this project where I developed the mobile controller (Unity iOS and Android) and the Big Screen (Unity PC).
Working with our concept artist we put together concepts for how we wanted the game to look and play. The environment was made to be completely destructible to make it more entertaining when players miss the net. If a ball hits the fridge, the door pops off. If the door is off and a ball hits a bottle it explodes. This increased the interaction with the game.
Because TimePlay games are designed to be 60 second experiences, we had an interesting time designing the controls to make sure that players quickly understood how to play the game. We added instructions to the Big Screen and eventually changed the controller to a slingshot to make the controls more intuitive to players.
